Valves at Medina Dam and Releasing Water

BMA has received questions and comments the last few days regarding the valves at Medina Dam and releasing water.

BMA must conduct maintenance and keep in good repair the valves that control water release from Medina Lake irrigation pipes.  There are two irrigation pipes that release water from Medina Lake, a 36” pipe and a 48” pipe.  When work and maintenance on the two dry side controls is conducted there will be leakage from the lake.  BMA conducted maintenance and repair on the dry side controls which resulted in very minimum leakage.  When BMA releases water for irrigators from Diversion Lake, the Medina Lake irrigation valves  are used to control the elevation of Diversion Lake. BMA utilized best practice management by conducting this work prior to needing the use of the valves to control the level of Diversion Lake.
